Local Area
Gullane is home to some of the best golf courses in Scotland, being located on the Golf Coast we are home to one of the densest clusters of high-quality links golf anywhere in the world.
Gullane Golf Club
One of Scotland's premier links destinations, it is renowned for its trio of courses - No.1, No.2, and No.3 - all laid out over Gullane Hill with stunning views of the Firth of Forth. It offers a pure links experience with high winds, rolling fairways, and firm turf, while also presenting options for a more challenging course with No.1 to a more accessible course with No.3.
Muirfield
Located at the opposite end of the village to Gullane Golf Club, Muirfield is one of the most prestigious courses in Scotland. Having hosted the Open championship multiple times, this course offers immaculate conditioning and a traditional atmosphere. Known for its distinct 2 loop layout, designed to balance wind from all directions, the course offers a fair but demanding test of links golf.
Luffness
This traditional links course offers a quieter, more understated experience than its more famous neighbours. The course runs alongside the coastline near Aberlady Bay with firm fairways, well-protected greens, and testing rough. With its classic design, natural setting, and less crowded atmosphere, Luffness is often regarded as a hidden gem on the Golf Coast.
Neighbouring courses
The neighbouring towns along the course offer just as pure of a links golf experience as Gullane. With Renaissance being a staple in the Scottish golf community, hosting the Scottish Open consistently. North Berwick Golf Club offering an extreme test with narrow fairways and high winds being just metres from the beach. The Golf Coast is anything but shy of all kinds of experiences.
A variety of bars & restaurants are located right at your doorstep. Whether you are looking for a casual drink after a round of golf or a more fine dining experience, there are options for everyone.
The Old Clubhouse
It is hard to find a more traditional and classic pub experience with The Old Clubhouse. Located just off the main street it offers a cosy and social atmosphere. This is a classic golfers hangout for post round food and drinks while also being a favourite of the locals. This is one of the busiest spots in town so I would recommend booking if you plan to have a meal, especially on weekends and game days.
The Bonnie Badger
One of Gullane’s standout venues, The Bonnie Badger is a stylish gastropub that blends high-end dining with a relaxed bar atmosphere. It’s known for modern Scottish cuisine, a strong drinks list, and a polished but welcoming feel—making it equally good for a proper meal or just drinks after golf.
The Mallard Hotel
A traditional pub-style hotel bar, The Mallard offers a more laid-back and local feel compared to some of the more polished venues. It’s a reliable spot for drinks, simple food, and a quieter pint, often favoured by regulars and those looking for something low-key.
La Potiniere
One of the most highly regarded restaurants in the area, La Potiniere offers refined French-inspired cuisine in an intimate setting. It’s more of a destination dining spot than a bar, ideal for special occasions or a high-quality meal, and is widely considered one of the top places to eat on the East Lothian coast.
The Main Course
An Italian restaurant in the centre of Gullane, The Main Course provides a more casual dining option with pasta, pizza, and classic Mediterranean dishes. It’s a good choice for a relaxed evening meal rather than a drinks-focused venue, though it still has a friendly, informal atmosphere.
There is free parking on the main street which is widely available to the cottage. Everything in the village is only a couple of minutes walk including the golf courses and the beach. There are regular bus services into Edinburgh and North Berwick, with multiple stops along the Main Street. Taxis have to be pre-booked or called upon request, there is no taxi rank so it is safer to pre-book if you plan to use one.
